He has taught constitutional law, Law of the Sea, public international law, international trade law, international arbitration, European Union law and public international air law.

« Armand de Mestral’s knowledge of public international law, including international economic law, is profound and far reaching. I am pleased that he is joining the International Law Research Program, as his research at CIGI will make important advancements in our understanding of investor state arbitration », says Oonagh Fitzgerald, Director of CIGI’s International Law Research Program.

« I am delighted to take this opportunity offered by CIGI to examine a major public policy issue of great interest in Canada and abroad »,  says CIGI Senior Fellow Armand de Mestral

De Mestral’s current research interest is the law of international economic integration. He has prepared books, articles and studies in English and French on international trade law and on Canadian and comparative constitutional and international law. He has served on World Trade Organization and North American Free Trade Agreement dispute settlements and public and private arbitration tribunals. He was made Member of the Order of Canada in December 2007.
