Lex Mundi Member Firm Lawyers from Across the Globe Train Together to Enhance their Cross-Border Practices and Management Skills.

In January, July, August and September of this year, Lex Mundi member firm lawyers from 74 jurisdictions traveled to Cambridge, England, Monterey, California and Prague to participate in the training programs offered through the 2015 Lex Mundi Institute.

The Lex Mundi Institute provides intensive, custom-designed one-week training programs to assist new or soon-to-be partners in their cross-border practices and in their management and leadership roles.

The 2015 programs included a Business Management Program for partners, a Foundation Management Program for new partners, a Cross-Border Dispute Resolution Program and a Cross-Border Transactions Program for senior associates and junior partners, and an Advanced Leadership and Management Program for managing partners and other firm leaders. The programs are led by an international faculty, including academics, in-house counsel, well-known consultants and senior Lex Mundi member firm lawyers, providing instruction through interactive lectures, group discussion exercises and individual skills training.

With the conclusion of the recently held 2015 programs, the Lex Mundi Institute has to date graduated 1,013 lawyers since its inaugural program in 2004.

2015 Lex Mundi Institute Programs

The Business Management Program, held January 4 – 9, 2015, was organized and presented in conjunction with the University of Cambridge, Judge Business School. The program is designed to increase the impact and effectiveness of lawyers in working with clients by increasing their understanding of clients’ business challenges and the concepts that underlie their business operations.

The Foundation Management program, held July 9 – 16, 2015, provides new partners with the knowledge and skills needed to be successful partners at their firms. The program includes advanced legal writing and editing, professional values, strategic planning, leadership development, law firm finances, and business development and client relations.

The Cross-Border Transactions program, held August 1 – 7, 2015, was designed to prepare participants to run cross-border mergers and acquisitions transactions, to enhance their knowledge and understanding of business concepts relevant to those transactions, and to develop an array of skills that cross-border lawyers need including advanced legal writing, negotiation, communication, business development and client relations.

The Cross-Border Dispute Resolution program, held August 2 – 8, 2015, is designed to provide senior associates and junior partners with the knowledge and skills needed to represent clients in resolving cross-border commercial disputes. Additionally, it focuses at an advanced level on refining professional skills such as negotiating, developing business and nurturing client relationships, and supervising the writing of juniors. Participants also have a unique opportunity to network with colleagues from other countries.

The Advanced Leadership and Management program, held August 30 – September 4, 2015, is designed for managing partners and other firm leaders, such as members of management committees and practice group leaders. This sophisticated program focuses on key leadership and management issues that are critical to a firm’s success in the current competitive global market for legal services.

“The Lex Mundi Institute plays a key role in developing the skills and client service capabilities of our member firms and member firm lawyers,” commented Carl Anduri, President of Lex Mundi. “We are pleased that more than 1,000 member firm lawyers have now completed these intensive programs.”
