Mark Mangan Joins Dechert as International Arbitration Partner in Singapore
lobal specialist law firm Dechert LLP announced today that Mark Mangan will join the firm in early 2015 as a partner in the International Arbitration practice.
“Mark is one of the leading arbitration practitioners in Singapore and we are very pleased to have him join our team,” said Eduardo Silva Romero, the chair of Dechert’s International Arbitration practice. “With the growth of Singapore as a seat for strategically important arbitrations, adding Mark strengthens our global reach and will be of great benefit to our clients.”
Mangan has acted as counsel in more than 25 commercial, investment treaty and sports arbitration matters. His practice focuses on complex disputes often involving a political or governmental dimension in the oil & gas, finance, telecommunications, and food and beverage sectors. Notably, he recently helped secure a significant victory for a consortium of international oil and gas companies in a claim for specific performance against a State-owned entity in relation to that State’s use of its sovereign resources.
“I very much look forward to joining Dechert and its formidable international arbitration group led by Eduardo Silva Romero,” Mangan said. “The arbitration team is particularly strong in investment treaty disputes, which is a core interest of mine, and a matter of increasing importance for clients. The firm provides global coverage through its network of offices, including impressive depth in Asia. I am thrilled at the opportunity to make a significant contribution to the firm’s continued success.”
He also successfully represented an international satellite manufacturer against claims that its satellites were defective; French and British investors in an investment treaty claim against the Czech Republic; a major nuclear power plant manufacturer in a complex arbitration; and the International Olympic Committee in numerous cases before the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
Mangan combines counsel work with arbitral appointments, having served as an arbitrator in cases seated in London, Paris, Stockholm and Singapore. He has also made significant contributions to the academic development of international arbitration, including as primary author of A Guide to the SIAC Arbitration Rules (Oxford University Press, August 2014).
Dechert is a leading international arbitration firm with multilingual teams in Paris, London, Beijing, Moscow, Hong Kong, Washington, D.C., New York, Dubai and Almaty. Particularly known for their work in Latin America, Dechert lawyers have acted as counsel or arbitrators in dozens of venues around the world.
